TRAIL: Rated 1. Suitable for strollers but wheelchairs might have trouble with curbs. Heritage Tour brochure at Start has detailed points of interest along the walk. Walk through history in North Carolina's second oldest town, settled in 1710. View several of the more than 150 historic landmarks as the route goes through historic neighborhoods; along the waterfront at the convergence of the Neuse and Trent rivers; past Tryon Palace, Capitol building and home of the Colonial Governor of NC (admission charge to enter); and through a historic Cemetery. Enjoy an eclectic mix of shops and eateries as you stroll through the old downtown.
HOW TO GET THERE:
From 1-95 or Raleigh: take US 70 east to New Bern. Exit on US 17/Bus 70 left to East Front Street. Right on East Front 2 blocks to S. Front Street. Right on S. Front. Visitor Center and Convention Center is immediately to the left. Free parking in Convention Center lots.
From Morehead City and beaches: Take US 70 west to New Bern. Exit on US 17/Bus 70 right to East Front Street. Right on East Front 2 blocks to S. Front Street. Right on S. Front. Visitor Center and Convention Center is immediately to the left. Free parking in Convention Center lots.
