Enjoy walking with a group that enjoys walking

Walk with people who enjoy walking. Set a pace which allows you to enjoy the scenery. Our 10 kilometer walks are in areas of historical interest or scenic beauty such as parks and in conjunction with events of community interest. The Winston Wanderers Walking Club is located in the Piedmont of North Carolina, including Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point.  The club is affiliated with The Tarheel State Walkers VolksSports Association (TSWVA), The American VolksSports Association (AVA), and The International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV). We hold weekend walks in the Central North Carolina area and have permanent trails located throughout the state.

7/20 Meeting at Summit Station Eatery in Greensboro

The next club meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 20th, at The Summit Station Eatery located at 125 Summit Avenue, Greensboro.  It is the former "Solaris Restaurant" on the city walk route.  Dinner (optional) is at 6 PM and the meeting is at 7 PM.

To get there from Winston-Salem, go east on I-40 to US-68, take exit 210, and turn left.  Take a right on Market Street and go into the downtown.  Turn left on North Elm, then turn right at the 2nd cross street onto Summit Ave and restaurant will be on the left.

Another route from Winston would be to take Freeman Mill Road (exit 218, this is also the Hwy 220 south exit.  This is also the exit used for the direction to the YRE start point).  Northbound Freeman Mill merges into Edgeworth Street then right on Market to Elm. Turn left on Elm and at the 2nd cross street turn right onto Summit Ave and restaurant will be on the left.

For those coming westbound on I-40, take the Elm-Eugene exit (Exit 37 from I-40 or Bus-85), turn north toward the downtown, and follow Elm Street through the downtown to Summit Ave.  Turn right on Summit Ave. and restaurant will be on the left.  This is shorter to describe, but much longer to drive.

During a time of economic downturn, the Visitors center had to cut hours for the weekends--our main walking time. The new starting point will be just around the corner at the new Gateway YWCA.

MOUNT AIRY YEAR ROUND EVENT START POINT:

The New starting point will be at the visitor’s center, under the time clock in the middle of downtown. The box was moved today 9/30/09, so feel free to go and welcome them to our family.
